The 13th International Conference on Human-Computer Interaction, HCI International 2009, will be held jointly with the affiliated Conferences in the Town and Country Resort & Convention Center, in San Diego, California, USA, 19-24 July 2009.
It will cover a broad spectrum of themes related to Human Computer Interaction, including theoretical issues, methods, tools, processes and case studies in HCI design, as well as novel interaction techniques, interfaces and applications.
The program will feature, among others: pre-conference half-day and full-day tutorials, parallel sessions, poster presentations, an opening session with a keynote address, an exhibition including demonstrations by industrial companies.
The Conference Proceedings will be published by Springer.
For the Call for Participation and further information, please visit the Conference website.
In the context of the HCI International 2009 Conference Exhibition, exhibitors will have an ideal opportunity to exhibit their products and services to an international audience of over 2,300 researchers, academics, professionals and users in the field of HCI. Attendees will be able to examine state-of-the- art HCI technology and interact with manufacturing representatives, vendors, publishers, and potential employers. More information about the Exhibition can be found at the Conference website.

Table of Contents | Top of PageThe Human Factors and Ergonomics Society (HFES) recently published the first revision of ANSI/HFES100-1988, American National Standard for Human Factors Engineering of Visual Display Terminal Workstations on DVD. This edition of the standard incorporates several extensions based on technology advancements and increased human factors knowledge to the technical areas discussed in ANSI/HFES100-1988. 100 members of the ANSI/HFES Committee contributed to drafting this huge undertaking that contains hardware design specifications, which are based on “accepted human factors engineering research and experience for computer workstations, their associated furniture, and the end user's workplace environment”.
ANSI/HFES 100-2007 standard “applies to computer workstations used regularly in office workplaces by users with normal perceptual and cognitive capabilities for text-, data-, and simple graphics-processing tasks”.
The 108 pages of this document summarize the findings of all the research that should be considered in hardware design specifications for computer workstations. Illustrated just when is needed, clear, and unambiguous language makes the standard extensively useful for all people involved in design and evaluation of computerized workstations. If you are an academic, ergonomist, occupational physician, occupational nurse, or workstation evaluator, you must have this resource. The digital format of the document makes it easily searchable, viewable by section and storable on your computer. For large organizations, ask HFES about a site license in case you want to put it on an intranet for multiple users. If you have not already purchased the document, you can order it online at

The main objective of this book is to bring together, in one book, contributions on the topic of Educational Social Software for Context-Aware Learning. The key objective is to look into the socio-cultural elements in educational social computing focused on design and theory where learning and setting are intertwined. A significant portion of the book will also focus on real life case studies where such evaluations have been applied and validated. The book not only will report first experiences and debates, but also aims to go beyond the current state of the art by looking at future prospects and emerging applications. As such, the book will be of great use to those who study, design, construct, moderate, evaluate and maintain educational social software in organizations, e-learning, eBusiness, e-government and other related domains.
The Target Audience:
Since the ultimate goal of the suggested methodologies is the use of the results of successful interventions, the target audience is everyone who owns, develops, evaluates and moderates educational social software - including individuals, universities, other organizations or companies.
