HCI International 2003

22-27 June 2003 - Crete, Greece


The 10th International Conference on Human-Computer Interaction was held in Crete, Greece, June 22-27, jointly with the:
  • Symposium on Human Interface (Japan) 2003
  • 6th International Conference on Engineering Psychology and Cognitive Ergonomics
  • 2nd Conference on Universal Access in Human Computer Interaction (UAHCI)
This event attracted more than 1,500 participants from 65 countries representing the research and academic communities as well as industry. The Conference Program was organized into 5 thematic areas, namely Human-Computer Interaction, Ergonomics and Health Aspects of Work with Computers, Human Interface and the Management of Information, Universal Access in Human-Computer Interaction and Engineering Psychology and Cognitive Ergonomics. The program featured 2 plenary sessions, 204 parallel paper sessions, 27 tutorials, 4 workshops, 7 special interest groups, as well as 122 poster presentations and 12 demonstrations. The keynote speakers were Prof. Ben Shneiderman, from the University of Maryland, USA, who presented 'Leonardo's Laptop: Human Needs and the New Computing Technologies' and Prof. Jenny Preece, from the University of Maryland Baltimore County, USA, who talked about 'Designing Sociable, Universally Usable Online Communities'. The Conference Proceedings have been published by Lawrence Erlbaum Associates, Inc (Acquired by CRC Press, Taylor & Francis Group) in four volumes containing 1,134 papers for a total of 5,909 pages. The first two volumes are dedicated to Human Computer Interaction (ISBN 0-8058-4930-0, ISBN 0-8058-4931-9), the third volume collects papers on cognitive, social and ergonomics aspects of computing (ISBN 0-8058-4932-7), while the fourth volume is dedicated to Universal Access in HCI (ISBN 0-8058-4933-5). The adjunct proceedings include the abstracts of 122 posters and 12 demonstrations.
